CEAS student published in Tsinghua Sociological Review

Ze'en Gong

Ze'en Gong (MA '24)'s single-authored paper was published in the Tsinghua Sociological Review, one of the most prestigious sociological journals in China. In his paper, "Max Weber On Capital: Capital Markets and the Modern State in his Writing on Exchanges," Gong examines the writings of Max Weber on German exchange reformations from 1894 to 1897 in an attempt to uncover and explain the much neglected Weberian financial ideas. He explores how domestic politics in late 19th century Germany perceived exchanges by building a competitive, yet nationalistic, Germany.

Gong states "I believe that my work will make a contribution to the field of Weber studies as well as financial sociology in terms of the interaction between the capital market and modern state building." He continues, "I am delighted with this achievement and grateful for the support throughout my journey at CEAS."
