Connie Chin, administrator of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, traveled by train across Mongolia and the northern Silk Road last summer. This slide presentation will show some of the highlights, such as staying with nomads in Mongolia, talking with Han, Uyghurs, and Tibetans in northwest China, exploring museums and archaeological sites, and walking the streets of Silk Road cities(modern cites of three million, and remnants of ancient cities baking in the sun). Observations on economic development and the tourist industry in China.
