For the past 50 years, the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) has been the nexus of East Asia-related research, teaching, outreach, and exchange across the Stanford campus.  Join us for a presentation by Stanford History Professor Gordon Chang to learn about his current research, to celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, and see what the next 50 years might have in store for East Asian Studies at Stanford and the world.  The presentation will be followed by a small reception for guests.

"Reflections on a 1971 Journey to China"

As a graduate student at Stanford, Gordon Chang, now a professor in the Department of History, traveled to China to tour the country and attend the National Day Celebration scheduled for October 1, 1971. He was one of the first Americans to visit China, traveling there even before Richard Nixon. He will share his memories of that trip and show some of the 500 slides he took during his travels.
