April 23, 2012 - 12:00pm
Philippines Conference Room, Encina Hall, 3rd Floor

CEAS Japan Brown Bag

Nobu Kurashige Head Professor and Managing Director, Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America

The year 2012 will mark the 550th year since the name “Ikenobo” first appeared in the historic records of Ikebana.  In 1462, a zen monk at the Tofukuji temple documented the arrangement of flowers by Senkei Ikenobo.  Since that time, Ikenobo has evolved through generations of ancestors.  Through this devotion, the spirit and path of Ikenobo has spread worldwide from teacher to student.  This presentation discusses the historical development of Ikenobo and includes a demonstration highlighting the evolution of Rikka, the signature style of Ikenobo.

Free and open to the public.
