Between Dystopia and Utopia: Reading the Minaret of Jam
Speaker: Finbarr Barry Flood, Associate Professor, Department of Art History & Institute of Fine Arts, New York University Sponsored by the Silkroad Foundation, Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies, and the Center for East Asian Studies. Flood will explore the Minaret of Jam, which lies on an ancient trade route from India to the east-west Silk Road, through history, art history, and epigraphy. Flood was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh in 1993. His research interests include Islamic architectural history and historiography, cross-cultural dimensions of Islamic art, technologies of representation, and Orientalism.
