STANFORD LANGUAGE LEARNING

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Stanford is dedicated to the languages, literatures, linguistics and cultures of East Asia. In cooperation with the Stanfiord Langauge Center, the Department offers courses in Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and Taiwanese.

The Stanford Language Center coordinates all language courses, establishes and maintains performance standards for language instruction, and administers language placement tests for incoming students. Their Stanford Digital Language Lab provides resources, facilities and support for language instruction and learning to the entire Stanford community.

CEAS Program for Advanced Language Maintenance (PALM)
The Center for East Asian Studies Program for Advanced Language Maintenance (PALM) classes are designed for students, faculty, and local community members who have achieved a relatively high level of language ability to maintain fluency through weekly conversation classes. Groups meet one to two hours per week in an informal but structured atmosphere to discuss topics of interest under the guidance of native speakers of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The program is free and open to anyone, and is offered during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters while classes are in session. Please email the relevant instructor for more details. All PALM sessions meet at 521 Memorial Way.
