ICA International Film Festival: Enlightenment Guaranteed (Germany, 2000)

Enlightenment Guaranteed (Erleuchtung Garantiert)
(Germany, 2000)
Two brothers, Uwe (Uwe Ochsenknecht) and Gustav (Gustav-Peter Wöhler) travel to Japan to sort out the mess of their lives. Their plan is to visit the Sojiji Monastery in Monzen, near Tokyo. On their way there, in a rather literal Buddhist moment, they lose all of their belongings. When they at last make it to the monastery, they find that even there, enlightenment can be elusive.

With introduction by Carl Bielefeldt, Professor and Director, Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford.

One of six films from around the world depicting varying aspects of life in a Global Metropolis, part of the ICA Summer 2009 International Film Festival: GLOBAL MEGACITIES. Co-sponsored by the Division of International Comparative & Area Studies at Stanford University
